Welcome to our new Instron Community Blog hosted by Instron. It is a compilation of the freshest, brightest, most-talented minds that Instron has to offer. The world of materials science is so vast and encompasses the broadest range of industries, materials, and challenges that no one person can possibly possess all the knowledge required to be the resident expert – or master of materials science. It takes a small army behind the scenes collaborating and sharing technical know-how, experiences, and ideas to present the most accurate, relevant, and timely information to you – our readers.
We invite you to tell us who you are, share your stories and talk about your experiences. Join the Instron Community.

At Instron®, we recognize the importance and the impact of your test results. When used in an R&D application, our equipment is helping you make business decisions about new processes or new materials. In a QC setting, we understand that our customers sometimes use our equipment for acceptance testing on an entire lot of production material. If the results from our equipment is not accurate, or if our equipment does not perform as expected, we understand the impact on your business. With this understanding and our desire to exceed your expectations, Instron’s quality management system stands above our competitors.

This article presents a short investigation of the benefits of non-contact strain measurement for monitoring and control of fatigue tests on composites. Recent developments in measurement technology offer the means to effectively measure both axial and transverse strain, instantly, throughout cyclic and highly dynamic tests. Several test scenarios are examined which demonstrate potential benefits of current state-of-the-art video extensometry, for strain controlled fatigue tests on thermoplastic composites.
