Peel Adhesion 90° (FINAT Test Method No. 2)

FINAT Test Method No. 2 (FTM 2) is used to investigate peel adhesion of laminates through an angle of 90° with a test speed of 300 mm per minute. This test covers the measurement of the peel adhesion from the plate at a specified angle and speed. The peel adhesion has been applied to a standard test plate under specified conditions. Predominately used with laminates, packaging materials for food products, andmedical devices, it can also be used for coated laminates for investigating the adhesion strengths.

In principle, the test specimen is supported by using a test plate and attaching the test sample by removing the backing material from each strip and placing the adhesive coated facing material adhesive side down, onto a clean test plate using light finger pressure. Roll twice in each direction with the standard FINAT test roller at a speed of approximately 10 mm per second to obtain intimate contact between the adhesive.

We recommend using a single column or dual column table top tensile testing machines. This test procedure can be easily achieved with single screw action grips, wedge action grips, or pneumatic grips, which can accommodate a range of test samples without the need for specialized loading methods. Using a peel fixture for this application will allow the operator to load the test plates correctly and easily.

Bluehill® 2 Materials Testing Software is used to create a test method that allows you to easily input specimen details and set the desired test control. The software automatically calculates the desired results and statistics, producing a test report all in accordance with the standard.

We suggest reviewing FINAT Test Method No. 2 to fully understand the test fixture and results requirements.
