Low Force Planar Systems

Planar Biaxial SystemSelect image to enlarge The low force planar system was developed to perform low force tests on:

  • Native tissues
  • Replacement biomaterials
  • Tissue engineered scaffolds

The low force planar system is combined with the advanced features of the FastTrack™ 8800 digital controller - 5kHz loop closure rate on each of the four actuators, allows control of soft tissues, which are sensitive to small changes in load.

The Dynamic and Fatigue Materials Testing Software Suite allows flexibility in designing and running test protocols.

Features

  • Submersible load cells, in saline bath, for direct, accurate measurement avoiding error caused by fluid drag or offset loads
  • Isolation table to prevent vibration effects from other lab equipment
  • Ability to run uniaxial tests, as well as planar-biaxial tests
  • Gripping method to assure homogeneous deformation within the specimen under biaxial loading
  • A non-contacting 2D strain measurement technique (developed by Dr. Michael Sacks, University of Pittsburgh) to measure non-uniform deformation
