Instron® purchased SATEC™ Systems, Inc. in 1998. SATEC complements Instron’s product portfolio with its well-known line of High Capacity Universal Materials Testing Machines.
SATEC’s origins trace back to the early 1900’s and encompass a number of famous testing equipment companies including Southwark™, Baldwin™, Wiedemann™, Sonntag™, and Arcweld™.
Today, SATEC™ remains the brand name for Instron’s hydraulically powered universal materials testing machines. The Instron Industrial Products Group, located in Grove City, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh), continues to market and manufacture the SATEC™ Series, along with torsion testers, impact testers, creep and stress-rupture testers, R.R. Moore rotating beam fatigue testers, spring testers and more!

DX Models feature a dual test space and single footprint design for safe and efficient testing with minimal floor space requirements. Available capacities: 150 kN (33,750 lbf), 300 kN (67,500 lbf), and 600 kN (135,000 lbf).
SATEC™ LX Models are ideal for high-capacity tension, compression, flex, and shear testing. These frames feature a large, single test space so users can easily and safely load and unload specimens. The single footprint design significantly reduces floor space requirements. Models include: 150LX, 300LX, and 600LX.
KPX Models feature an ultra-large, single test space and adjustable crosshead options for exceptional flexibility on a wide range of applications. Capacities available: 600 kN (135,000 lbf), 1,500 kN (337,500 lbf), 2,000 kN (450,000 lbf), and 3,500 kN (800,000 lbf).
HVL Models are ideal for high-capacity tension, compression, flex, and shear testing. The frames feature two test spaces so users can quickly change between tension and compression testing without having to remove heavy fixtures. Models include: 400HVL, 400WHVL, 600HVL, and 600WHVL.
Horizontal testing machines are available in capacities up to 10 MN (2.25 million lbf). These frames feature a horizontal test space to accommodate extra long specimens and are ideal for tension testing long lengths of rope, cable, wire, and large specimens that require loading and unloading with an overhead crane.
The RD Series is a family of three compression testing models ranging in capacity from 2,000 - 5,000 kN (400,000 - 1,100,000 lbf). The system includes a floor standing welded frame, precision pressure transducer measurement device, and standard safety guards. This machine is ideally suited for compression applications where frame stiffness is critical.
Low and medium capacity torsion testers provide dependable mulit-turn capability. Available in capacities ranging from 22 - 5,650 N-m (200 - 50,000 in lb), these systems are ideal for biomedical, automotive, and aerospace applications.
Pendulums are designed to determine the mechanical and physical properties of metals, polymers, composites, and finished products for both research and development (R&D) and quality control (QC), the pendulum family is capable of performing Charpy and Izod tests according to international standards.
R.R. Moore Testing Systems are recognized as the industry standard for rotating beam fatigue testing. Designed to rotate each specimen through an average of 9,999 complete stress cycles per minute, these machines apply a bending stress by means of deadweights.
Creep and Stress-Rupture Model M3 was designed as a low-cost solution for long-term creep and stress-rupture testing applications of metallic materials in accordance with ASTM E139.
Designed and written for the Windows® platform, Partner™ materials testing software combines ease-of-use and multitasking capability within the materials testing environment. Partner helps manage and streamline the entire testing process from entering pre-test parameters to result calculation. The end result is a complete testing system which integrates easily with other business operations.
The SF Series Spring Testers are systems built specifically for spring testing. Systems feature heavy-duty load cells, stiff load frames, ergonomic safety guards, and advanced spring testing software.
