ASTM D6272 Flexural Properties Plastics Electrical Insulating Materials
ASTM D6272 test method specifies the conditions for determining the flexural properties of unreinforced and reinforced plastics and electrical insulating materials in the form of rectangular bars that are either molded directly or cut from sheets, plates, or molded shapes by four-point bending. For this type of flexure test, we recommend using a 4-Point Flexure fixture where the load is applied by the loading head to the specimen at two points equally distant to the center line. Our 4-Point Flexure fixture has a single loadinghead option for 3-Point Flexure testing, as described by ASTM D790.
An additional accessory that is often required (ASTM D6272 specifies a Class C deflection measuring device) is a deflectometer. This device automatically and continuously records the deflection of the specimen during the test and is more often used for compressive and flexure applications. Deflectometers similar to extensometers, which are used most often for tensile applications.
2601 Series LVDT Deflection Sensors
The 2601 series Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) displacement transducers are measuring devices that measure the displacement of the load frames of materials testing systems. They feature an LVDT as the active element, and are designed for use on both electromechanical and hydraulic Instron® testing systems.
